Eating a healthy diet is not enough for maintaining overall good health. Water is just as important as food. In fact, water is probably even more important than food. Did you know that we could survive without food for more than 1 month, but we couldn’t live without water for more than 3 (or maybe 4) days? That’s why everyone should make sure that they drink enough water. Especially for those of us surviving in this summer’s desert heat. We need to drink at least 2 L of water a day, but drinking 3 or 4 L is even better. Eating lots of hydrating fruits is another great way to hydrate your body and get energized!
Top 10 Hydrating foods:
- Cucumbers 96% water
- Watermelon 96% water
- Pinapple 95% water
- Lettuce 95% water
- Tomatoes 94% water
- Blue berries 95% water
- Celery 95% water
- Cantelope 92% water
- Grapefruit 90% water
- Pear 89% water
Eating raw fruits and vegetables should be a part of everyones daily diet. During the hot summer months here in AZ a good health challenge would be incorporating at least one of these foods into your daily diet.

Have you ever wondered why the Japanese have beautiful skin? Well it is because they perceive sake as their “fountain of youth”. They drink it to achieve beautiful skin and some will even bathe in to prevent the effects of aging. Sake is made from rice and the high nutrient content of rice includes the B complex of vitamins and minerals. Externally, it can be used as an exfoliant or in a spritzer to hydrate the skin.
Rice based skin care products increase ceramide production, which is critical in slowing down the aging process. Ceramides are natural fats that help form skin structure; they are the ‘glue’ that holds the cells together and locks in moisture. This all leads to more firm radiant skin.
You can achieve the benefits at home by boiling Japanese rice making sure it is covered with at least one inch of water. You will be using the left over water so make sure the rice doesn’t absorb it all. Strain the water and after it has cooled, use it as a face wash, a toner, and even wash your hair with it to add shine.
However, if you don’t have the time to make your own or don’t enjoy drinking sake, come in and get our Eminence Strawberry Dermafoliant wash that is amazing! It is probably my top 3 favorite product out there. It is a rice based exfoliant gentle enough to use daily and for ALL skin types. It is loaded with anti-oxidants and it is my lazy way of getting the incredible benefits of rice.

Everyone has rituals in their life that bring them comfort. Some people take a shower every morning, take the same route to work everyday, or eat chicken soup when they feel unwell. These rituals can have a power that goes beyond the simple act of performing them: perhaps we feel refreshed and ready after the shower; predictable and in control from not having to concentrate on a route; and magically healthier from the soup. These little daily rituals add stability to our lives by giving us a predictable action to take with a predictable outcome. While many of these things are just daily routines that have been started without conscious effort, it is possibly to create a daily ritual for yourself that will cause your body and mind to naturally and automatically relax.
Choose an action that you can easily do every day and that you enjoy doing. I drink a cup of tea. Some people use yoga or meditation. Others water their plants or trim bonsai trees. The action itself doesn’t even matter – you could even use one of the actions from earlier, such as taking a shower. As you do your chosen ritual each day, concentrate on breathing slowly in, slowly out. Allow all the stresses of your world to fall away. Nothing else matters right now but that thing that you are doing. Let yourself move slowly and deliberately. There is no need to rush, this is your time. Once your action is complete, you can then return to your normal daily life. It will only take a short while for the ritual to become routine for you. You will have created an association between your ritual action and the relaxation and clarity that you have developed. Whenever you feel tense and need a break, turn to your ritual to help you relax back in to a state of calm.

When you have a stubborn breakout anywhere on your body (including the face) use a dab of pure Tea Tree Oil on the spot. Just dip a Q-tip (do not double dip) into it and apply right on the breakout. It helps to kill the bacteria and also start drying it up. I usually do it morning and night but everyone is different. You might just need to do it once a day depending on how your skin reacts. For you super oily faces out there, Tea Tree Oil can be used as a moisturizer BUT you must dilute it before applying all over your face. Just wet a cotton round thoroughly and dab the tea tree oil on the cotton and apply all over as you would a toner. No need for moisturizer but still apply SPF. Just because you are oily you still need moisturizer!! So many oily people cringe at the thought of moisturizer on their face. So use the tea tree oil during the day (along with SPF) and a moisturizer at night. It’s all about balance. You are usually oily because you are lacking the moisture.
